Preppo is a travel packing app. This page explains what information the app handles and why.

No account required

Preppo doesn't ask for an email address or password. Your trips, packing lists, and settings are stored on your own device. The app does create a private, anonymous identity for your device — never your name, email, or phone number — used to enforce the free-trial trip limit described under "Preppo Pro" below, and, if you choose to use it, to sync a shared Party Packing trip. On its own, this identity doesn't identify you personally.

Party Packing (optional)

If you start or join a shared trip with other people, the same anonymous device identity described above is used so the shared trip can sync between everyone's phones in real time. The trip's destination, dates, packing list, and the display name/avatar you choose for that trip are stored so other invited members can see them. Deleting a shared trip (as the organizer) or leaving it (as a member) removes your access to that shared data.

Preppo Pro (in-app purchase)

Preppo is free to use for your first 2 trips. Preppo Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks unlimited trips — there is no subscription, and nothing renews automatically. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple's or Google's own payment systems; Preppo never sees or stores your payment card details. We use RevenueCat, a third-party purchase-management service, to verify your purchase and keep your Pro status available if you reinstall the app or restore purchases. RevenueCat receives your anonymous device identity and purchase/transaction details from Apple or Google — never your name, email, or payment information.

Usage analytics

To understand whether the free-trial and purchase experience is working as intended, the app records a small set of events — such as a trip being created or a purchase completing — tied to your anonymous device identity. This is used only to improve the app and is never sold or shared with advertisers.

Camera

If you use the camera to scan items into your packing list, photos are analyzed on your device first using a bundled on-device model — most scans never leave your phone. If the on-device scan can't confidently identify an item, the photo is automatically sent to Google's Gemini API as a fallback for a second look. We don't store the photo ourselves; how Google handles data sent to its API is governed by Google's own privacy policy.

Location

If you allow location access, it's used to note where you last saw a packed item (e.g. "left in the hotel room") and, only when needed, to look up the name of that place. This is usually answered from data cached on your device. If nothing is cached for that spot, your coordinates are sent to a mapping lookup service (OpenStreetMap Nominatim, or your device's own built-in location service) to get a place name back. This is never sent to us or to other party members, even on a shared trip.

Other services this app talks to

To provide weather forecasts, area suggestions, currency conversion, and location lookups, the app sends non-identifying requests (like a country name or coordinates) to these third-party services:

None of these receive your name, contact details, or device identity.

Children's privacy

Preppo is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from children.
